The Very Best Pain Management For Your Dental Surgery

Using sedation to make your treatment as stress free as possible

Here at the FACEmed medical centre we understand that you might be feeling a little nervous when you come in for your dental surgery. That’s why we’re pleased to offer you the opportunity to have all our major dental procedures performed under a combination of local anaesthesia and sedation.

Using this powerful but gentle combination of medications you can be assured your dental procedure is as stress-free as possible for you. Because you are calm and relaxed, our dental surgeon will be able to do his very best work for you, giving you the very best results.

What happens

On the day of your dental procedure, just before your treatment starts, you’ll be given a combination of medications. These medications will help you to relax, provide you with some anxiety relief and give you a sense of general well-being.

Made up of an anxiolitic (an anti-anxiety medication) and a painkiller, this brilliant combination has a powerful effect on your central nervous system, keeping you calm and making sure you don’t feel any pain.

Whilst some of the medications we use for sedation are the same as those often used for general anaesthesia, it’s important that you understand the difference in how we use them. Unlike a medical general anaesthetic which renders you unconscious, with sedation you are always conscious. This means that you will be able to answer simple questions or tell us if you are in any kind of discomfort.

Possible side effects

Here at FACEmed we choose sedation over a general anaesthetic because it is highly effective yet carries fewer risks. It has a lower impact your nervous system and is therefore less likely to cause side effects.

The most common side effects of sedation include mild nausea and low blood pressure. These tend only occur in one out of every ten patients we see and will be resolved before your discharge with some anti-sickness medication or/and intravenous fluid.

The effects of your sedation will usually only last a few hours, depending on the length of your procedure. You will not be able to drive or perform any complex neurological tasks for at least 24 hours and you will need to have someone stay with you for the first night after your dental procedure.

Your safety is paramount

At FACEmed we’re dedicated to providing you with the very best care so to ensure that your procedure is delivered safely, so your sedation will be done by a consultant anaesthetist.
