Traditional Fixed Braces

Decades of Proven Success Rates

Traditional fixed braces have been revolutionised over the last 15 years with the taboo of ‘metal mouths’ almost a thing of the past. Advances in modern complex orthodontics has seen the introduction of ceramic braces and lingual braces both of which have the same effect of the metal brace but appear more aesthetically pleasing in comparison to the traditional metal train tracks.

Fixed Braces – Is this the best course of treatment for me?

The teeth straightening market is extremely varied especially given the most recent addition of short-term options such as Invisalign and Six Month Smiles. It is important to remember that orthodontic treatment by nature is complex and there is not a universal treatment that suits all. The most important part of your treatment is choosing the right Orthodontic Specialist who is experienced in all methods and can be trusted to advise you on the right course of treatment for you which will give you the optimal outcome.

Fixed Braces are most commonly used for more complex tooth misalignment cases, bite and jaw issues and malocclusion cases whereby space within the mouth is an issue. The brace is fixed to your tooth with a special glue and tightened by the dentist on a regular basis in order to pull the teeth into their desired position.

The good news is that you still have options when it comes to fixed braces. Should you wish to avoid a metal brace, you can choose from ceramic braces with tooth coloured or clear wiring giving you a more natural appearance or a lingual brace which can be placed behind the teeth making the fixed braces virtually unnoticeable!

Caring for your fixed braces can be slightly more enduring than that of an aligner or short-term brace. Your oral hygiene is paramount throughout your treatment and you will be required to visit the clinic regularly for both tightening and oral hygiene check-up. The duration of treatment varies from person to person and will be advised by your specialist dentist. The normal duration is between 12 months to 2 years depending on the severity of the case.

After your treatment the specialist dentist will discuss with you the best option for removable or fixed retainers in order to ensure that your teeth do not move from their new position.
