Botox® injections as a Gummy Smile Treatment
A non-surgical solution, Botox® can help by relaxing the muscles that contract and lift the upper lip too high when you smile. By reducing the activity of these muscles, we can lessen the amount they “pull upwards”, therefore reducing the amount of gum shown.
Gum Contouring Laser Surgery
If your problem is due to an excess of gum tissue, then laser gum reshaping could be a better option for you. An experienced dental surgeon will carefully remove the excess tissue, re-contouring and reshaping the gums, to create a more balanced smile.
Treatment Recovery Time
There is no recovery time after Botox® injections. The full effect will be seen approximately 2 weeks after the procedure and it only needs repeating every 3-4 months to maintain the results
Gummy smile procedures are usually same-day procedures with a quick recovery time approximately 1 week. Afterwards you may experience some discomfort, but nothing that can’t be managed with over the counter pain medications.
You’ll be able to go back to work within few days, but you may need to eat soft foods for a little while to avoid irritating the gums.
