MR ABY VALLIATTU

Mr Valliattu is a GP Principal and Primary Care Surgeon at Valkyrie Surgery which is one the largest teaching practices in Southend-on-Sea, Essex.  He currently provides NHS vasectomy and minor surgery services for Southend and surrounding areas. He has been performing Non-Scalpel Vasectomy procedures since 2013 and has extensive experience in this procedure as well as minor surgical procedures in the community. He has an interest in musculoskeletal problems and is highly skilled in joint and soft tissue injections.

He graduated from Annamalai University, India in 1995. He undertook his post graduate surgical training in India and obtained a Master of Surgery (MS) from Saurasthra University. He went on to obtain the Diploma of the National Board in General Surgery followed by the FRCSEd (Surgery in General) in 2002.

Aby continued his surgical training in the Southwest of England where he worked in several surgical subspecialties performing complex open and laparoscopic surgical procedures as well as many local anaesthetic hernia repairs under the Plymouth Hernia Service. He was an accomplished surgical trainer for core and higher surgical trainees as well as a faculty on the Royal College of Surgeons’ Basic Surgical Skills Course and CRISP courses. His surgical prowess & commitment led to the Royal College of Surgeons of England awarding him FRCS (ad eundeum) in 2006. This was followed by a stint as an Honorary University Fellow at University of Plymouth where he completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education in 2008. He has published several papers in various journals and presented his work at national and international conferences.

Mr Valliattu decided to train as a General Practitioner for better work life balance and embarked on his General Practice career as a specialist trainee in the Plymouth GP Training Programme on completion of which he obtained his MRCGP in 2012.  He continued to perform primary care surgical procedures including minor surgery and vasectomies in Devon before moving to Essex in 2015.

Mr Valliattu has worked as a GP Principal and GP trainer since 2015 and he was honoured by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) with a fellowship-FRCGP in November 2021. He was awarded the fellowship as a mark of his achievement, excellence, and recognition of his contribution to general practice, and medicine more broadly. Being awarded the fellowship denotes the esteem in which he is held by his peers and the RCGP. In his day-to-day practice, he deals with all aspects of general practice and is an NHS GP Appraiser. He has also undertaken GP supervisory work for the GMC.

Mr Valliattu enjoys the training and education of the next generation of doctors through his involvement at the Anglia Ruskin University School of Medicine as an Educational Supervisor, Examiner and Interview Panel member. He is also involved in GP training as a Tier 3 Educator.

Aby plays cricket during the summer months and tries to keep fit by running and practices mindfulness.  He spends his leisure time with his family and his beloved Mini Schnauzer Arlo.
