Bunion Surgery
Here at FACEmed we specialise in Hallux Valgus – also known as bunion surgery – to surgically remove your bunions. Bunions are a common condition that involves bony bumps protruding out of the normal parameters of the joint of the big toe and typically, these bumps can be swollen, painful, callused and uncomfortable. They are caused by the malalignment of the big toe joint, causing the toe to grow out at an angle. Bunions can be caused by a number of factors including; a family history of bunions (genetics), the type of footwear worn, some types of arthritis, and biomechanical factors.
Experienced Team of Consultant Surgeons
The FACEmed surgical department is led by experienced consultant surgeons within the fields of plastic and reconstructive surgery, hair transplantation surgery, maxillofacial surgery, and foot and ankle surgery.
Our bunion surgery is performed by our Consultant Podiatric Surgeon, Jason Nandlal, who is specially trained in the surgical treatment of conditions of the foot and ankle and has performed over 7,000 ‘bunionectomies’ throughout his career. Surgery to remove a bunion is undertaken as a day case procedure, under local anaesthetic with or without sedation. Recovery from bunion surgery takes around 6-8 weeks, and modern fixation techniques mean that there is no need for a plaster cast anymore.
