Pain Relief & Sedation For Painless & Stress-Free Surgery

Sedation with minimum stress

At FACEmed we understand that it’s completely normal to feel some degree of stress when you come in for surgery. Because of this, we’re pleased to offer you the opportunity to have all of our aesthetic surgeries performed under a combination of local anaesthesia and sedation.

This way, the surgical result is maximized while keeping the physiological stress of your operation to a minimum. The experience of your surgery will be improved and our surgeon will be able to do his best work and produce the fantastic result you are looking for.

For more information about Twilight Sedation, request our 'sedation factsheet' to be sent to you by emailing or call 01268833680 and we will be happy to send you a copy.

What happens

A few minutes before your surgery commences you will be given a combination of medications that will provide you with anxiety relief and a sense of general wellbeing.

The medication you will receive is made up of an anxiolitic (an anti-anxiety medication) and a painkiller that has a powerful effect on your central nervous system.

Some of the medications that are used for sedation are in fact the same as those normally used for general anaesthesia. That said, it is important that you understand that there are some major differences between the two, all of which is explained in our sedation factsheet which we will be happy to send you.

During your procedure at FACEmed you will be sedated and therefore always conscious, unlike a medical general anaesthetic which renders you unconscious. This means that you will be able to answer simple questions and respond to touch.

How long does sedation last?

The effects of the sedation usually only last a few hours, depending on the length of your procedure. Even so, you will not be able to perform any complex neurological tasks, like driving for example, for at least 24 hours. You will also need to have someone with you for the first night after your surgery.

Sedation is preferred over a general anaesthetic due to the lower impact it has on your nervous system and body. It’s a gentler approach and as such the risk of heavy side effects are less.

Potential side effects

The most common side effects related to sedation are a slight sense of nausea and low blood pressure, both of which will be resolved before your discharge with some anti-sickness or/and intravenous fluid. These mild side effects can happen in one or two patients in every ten.

To ensure that this medical procedure is delivered safely and without complications, your sedation will be done by a consultant anaesthetist.

If you wish to know more about it please feel free to ask during your consultation.
