Labiaplasty, also known as labial reduction surgery, is a procedure to reduce the size of the inner lips of the vagina. Some women find that their labia minora (the inner lips of the vagina) are too big, too long, or protrude too much. This can cause feelings of embarrassment, loss in confidence, and in some cases, discomfort or pain.

Some women feel self-conscious because their labia may be noticeable in tight clothing or their vagina doesn’t look “neat.” Others find their labia cause discomfort during activities such as sex, cycling, or horse riding.

What to Expect from Labiaplasty Surgery

During the operation, your surgeon will carefully trim the labia minora, reducing its size and preventing it from protruding. The technique used—whether a straight line, V shape, or W shape—will be discussed and agreed upon during your consultation to ensure you are comfortable with the process.

The surgery is usually performed under local anaesthesia with sedation, allowing you to return home the same day. Healing time is typically around six to eight weeks, with dissolvable stitches. You will need to refrain from intercourse for four to six weeks following surgery.
