Prominent or asymmetrical ears affect 1% of the population in the UK. Although predominantly associated with men, it is also common for women to undergo this procedure. Women are as likely as men to suffer from prominent or asymmetrical ears; however, in some cases, women find it easier to mask this if they have long hair. Ear irregularities are usually hereditary and tend to run in families. These irregularities can cause a lack of self-confidence, embarrassment, and low self-esteem. If you are considering ear correction surgery, you will be happy to know that the procedure is straightforward and highly effective. Always ensure that your surgeon is experienced in this field and GMC Specialist Registered.
Pinnaplasty, or ear correction surgery, is a cosmetic procedure designed to improve the appearance of prominent or asymmetrical ears. The surgery involves reshaping the ear cartilage to achieve a more natural and balanced look, bringing the ears closer to the head and reducing prominence.
Depending on the severity of the case, the procedure takes between 1-2 hours in theatre under local anaesthetic with IV sedation. The surgeon will expose the cartilage behind the ear and contour it according to the desired outcome while bringing it closer to the head to adjust any prominence.
After your procedure, you will experience some swelling and pain. Over-the-counter analgesics such as ibuprofen or paracetamol can be used to alleviate this. You will be required to wear a headband for approximately one week post-surgery. Your surgeon will advise you to avoid sports or high-intensity activities for two to three weeks. It is also recommended to take one week off work to rest and allow your ear swelling to heal. You will also have a small scar behind your ear(s), which will be red initially but fade over time until it is very faint and unnoticeable. Scar management advice will be given to you post-operatively to enable you to get the best result with your scar. It takes approximately six weeks to see the full effects of your surgery.
As with all surgeries, there are risks, though uncommon. These include:

To say I’m pleased with the service is an understatement, outstanding patient care and a first class service. Doctor George and Team are by far the best dental team I’ve experienced. The FACEMED facility is of the highest standard and I highly recommend that anyone looking for any dental treatment to look no further than here.

I hadn’t been to the dentist for year as i’ve always been too scared!! I plucked up the courage after Dr Ketan Sheth treated my 9 and 11 year old children and they were fine. Can honestly say now I don’t know why I didn’t go sooner. Dr Ketan Sheth is a fantastic dentist and all the staff and the surgery as a whole there is 5 star! Thank you for all your help and see you in 6 months.
I have been using FACEMED for a number of years now for natural, painless Botox injections. A few years ago I decided to also have Blepharoplasty Eyelid Surgery. The clinic has its own operating theatre for the Consultant Plastic Surgeon to perform surgery, the results were perfect. FACEMED is immaculately clean, the staff are professional and helpful and Monica is an absolute expert in her field.
I love my experience when visiting FACEMED. Such a relaxing, professional atmosphere. Furthermore, I look forward to seeing the results of my treatments, of which I am never in doubt. I totally recommend FACEMED for truly excellent results.
