PRP

Approximately 10ml – 15ml of blood is taken from your arm, similar to when you have a blood test, it is then put into a machine called a centrifuge which spins the blood at a very high speed. The end product is a vial of blood which has been separated into 3 parts: red blood cells, platelet-rich plasma, and platelet-poor plasma. The red blood cells are discarded and the plasma is prepared for redistribution by injection or microneedling to the desired area. Platelets play a vital role in tissue repair and regeneration and PRP injections have been used throughout many disciplines for many years, in particular in acute sports injuries involving ligament and muscle damage repair. Platelets regulate the various functions involved in the wound healing process.

Ageing of the human skin results from a combination of a gradual decline in function over time (intrinsic ageing) together with cumulative damage caused by environmental factors (extrinsic ageing) which includes smoking, exposure to chemicals, and sun exposure (UVB radiation). With age, degeneration of connective tissue, the decrease in hyaluronic acid polymers, and the decrease in fibroblasts/collagen is a natural process. PRP is used for the activation of dermal fibroblasts and collagen synthesis in order to trigger skin regeneration and rejuvenation. More recently, the popularity of PRP in face and neck rejuvenation has risen significantly.

PRP can be administered as a standalone treatment or used in combination with other medical aesthetic applications, i.e., muscle relaxant injections, dermal fillers, dermaroller, and/or PDO threads. Patients often desire to have natural treatment involving the use of their own autologous substance (meaning coming from their own body) and PRP is the preferred option for a minimally invasive treatment which visibly improves the skin quality with minimal downtime.

Although it is often used for the full face and neck (by injection/microneedling), the popularity of treating the lower eyelids/under eyes has increased due to its high success rates in reducing dark circles and under-eye bags.

The lower eyelids/under eyes are the most delicate area of the face. Research shows that a series of PRP injections in the lower eyelid region is a safe, effective, and virtually pain-free treatment option for an area with otherwise limited treatment alternatives.

Under-eye skin is increased in volume and elasticity while wrinkles and dark circles appear reduced.

The recommended treatment protocol for hair loss is 4 to 6 sessions at 6 to 8 week intervals.
