What is the best time of year to have cosmetic surgery?

Deciding to have cosmetic surgery is a really big decision. There are a lot of things to think about beforehand such as finding a surgeon that you can trust, deciding if cosmetic surgery is the right choice for your concern, the cost, and what risks are involved.

Once you have come to the decision to go ahead with a cosmetic surgery procedure, it is important to plan the downtime that you will need for your body to heal. Different types of surgery will require different lengths of downtime, and the area of the body where you have had the surgery will impact whether you will feel confident being out in public or not.

For example, after the required rest period, breast augmentation surgery can be easy to cover up, whereas if you have had facial surgery, such as blepharoplasty or a facelift you may not feel like going out in public for sometime after your procedure.

Which season is best for cosmetic surgery?

At FACEMED we find many of our patients opt to have cosmetic surgery in the winter time. There are a few reasons why winter is considered a good time to have a surgical procedure.

Patients find that at this time of the year there are often:

  • Less social obligations
  • Less sun exposure (which can help with the healing process)
  • The ability to wear loose or baggy winter clothing that can be used to cover up
  • Plenty of time to recover before the spring and summer beach holidays

Recovering from cosmetic surgery makes sense when it is cold and wet outside and when there are less social events to attend. After cosmetic surgery you may well feel bruised and swollen, so staying indoors in the warmth of your own home in the winter can allow you the time you need to heal. If you need to go out, wearing loose or baggy winter clothing, or scarves and hats can help you to cover up in a way that feels comfortable and doesn’t give away that you have had a surgical procedure.

Having cosmetic surgery procedures in the winter allows for recovery and healing that will be fully completed as we move towards the Spring and Summer, when you will be ready to show off the results of your cosmetic surgical treatments.
