Introduction to Muscle Relaxant Treatment

Facial lines and wrinkles are caused by muscle contraction every time you express yourself by smiling, frowning or pulling faces. The more expressive you are, the deeper these wrinkles are likely to be.

Botulinum Toxin Type A injections are muscle relaxant treatments for your face, jawline and neck. The injections temporarily relax specific muscles under the skin so that when you frown, smile or pull faces, the treated muscles stay relaxed and you preserve facial movement whilst lines and wrinkles are softened.

Botulinum Toxin Type A is also used as a preventative treatment on areas where wrinkles may not be too visible yet. It is clinically proven that Botulinum Toxin Type A treatment is safe, effective and requires no down time.

FACEmed is a specialist treatment centre in the heart of Essex. Lead Aesthetic Practitioner, Monica Berrange has over 15 years experience in non-surgical medical aesthetic injectable treatments.

What is Botulinum Toxin type a and what is it used for?

Botulinum Toxin Type A (aka BOTOX®) is a purified protein which reduces the activity of the facial muscles that cause lines and wrinkles to form over time.

With carefully targeted injections the face can be relaxed, refreshed and sculpted by raising or lowering eyebrows and/or by softening the jaw line and the neck bands to restore your natural youthful look and enhance your features.

It is used to treat:

  • Frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Horizontal lines on the forehead
  • Crows’ feet – lines around the eyes
  • Brow Lift – mimics surgical brow lift without surgery
  • Neck Lift- Jaw line definition
  • Facial asymmetry
  • Bunny wrinkles on nose
  • Lift mouth corners / Fine lines around lips
  • Dimpling of the chin
  • Excessive sweating
  • Migraines or tension headaches

Your Experience & The Future

The procedure consists of a few injections in the target area using acupuncture-like needles. It takes only few minutes, little discomfort and no down time.

The treatment will gradually wear off after 3-4 months. If the area is re-treated as soon as the muscles start to move, then the muscles never regain their “memory”. After a number of re-treatments the interval between treatments becomes longer.

Potential Side-Effects and the Result

You may get a slight bruise at the injection site.

Please note that some patients who don’t require the treatment or are not good candidates will be advised during the consultation process and treatment may be declined to avoid disappointment.

Beware of Bargain Botox®

Your health and wellbeing is not something you should put at risk for the sake of a few pounds. There are many stories of bogus muscle relaxant injectors offering this treatment at impossibly low prices. The old adage, “…sounds too good to be true…” is normally true when it comes to medical aesthetic injectable treatments. Remember, although it is a cosmetic treatment it is a prescription-only medicine and can only be performed by medical doctors and nurses with special prescribing qualifications. If you are unsure about who is performing the treatment and their qualifications, we recommended checking the SAVE FACE website which contains the only government recognised list of accredited practitioners.
